The patient couch is used in urological investigations by X-ray diagnosis and instrument-based techniques. The couch is fixed to a rigid column and is adjustable in both height and tilting angle. An emitter and recorder system with a motor drive can traverse the whole length of the couch.

In order to ensure positioning without stick-slip, the instrument is equipped with devices to ensure gentle starting and stopping. The linear bearings must also fulfil the requirement for gentle movement. The couch carrying the patient must move quietly and without stick-slip. Furthermore, the system must function reliably and require very little maintenance.
